Straddling the Aegean and Mediterranean seas, the Datça peninsula offers a relatively unspoilt and forgotten landscape. Ancient villages nestle in wild scrubland, surrounded by mountain ranges. Simple farm roads wander through woodland, allowing unrestricted access to hidden wildlife, attractive cottages, traditional villages and crumbling churches
A cycling holiday with the English Travel Company opens up a myriad of quiet roads that enable you to enjoy an area rich in history, landscapes and wildlife. Our trips allow occasional cyclists to relax, recreational cyclists to explore, and experienced cyclists to seek out a challenge.
Your enjoyment of your holiday is just as important to us as the cycling. To that end, we do not offer cycling holidays in which you are part of a group. Nor do we provide lessons or instructions, or a set itinerary. Rather, the emphasis is on individuality. We can provide a daily guide, if you wish, and we can arrange to provide maps and directions around the area.
Each cottage, hotel room or apartment contains a selection of books on cycling and photography, giving both basic tips and more advanced advice. Films of photographs can be processed daily, and digital files can be downloaded and copied to CD each evening.
Datça has excellent bus and taxi services and we can advise you on the best places to start your tour each day, so that you see a wide variety of local village life, scenery and nature. Guests can also enjoy a range of activities, including walking, shopping, horse riding, swimming and mountaineering. At the English Travel Company, we aim to ensure that every member of your group enjoys their holiday. If there are members of your group to whom cycling doesn't appeal, they can take time out to relax on the harbour, sunbathe on a number of beaches, or lazily explore the local shops.
If you would like us to arrange a cycling tour of the Datça peninsula for you, we suggest that the best seasons are spring (February to June) and autumn (September to November) as it is slightly cooler at these times of year. Spring is a beautifully colourful season when the mountains are covered with all kinds of wild flowers, while autumn finds acres of vines, figs, almonds and limes in the villages. If, however, you like to ride on cool (but rarely cold) days with the sun shining, then Datça in winter is the best place, and the best time.
We firmly believe that Datça is the ideal location to cycle, enjoy beautiful scenery and have a wonderful holiday.
